AWS Lambda Arrives On The AWS GovCloud

Amazon has just confirmed that AWS Lambda, its serverless compute service, is now available for its GovCloud (US) Region, which is an isolated cloud region the company has specifically built for sensitive data and regulated workloads.

United States government customers, in other words.

AWS shared this news on its official blog, detailing how this computing service is designed to help developers run code in GovCloud without the need to provision or manage servers:

“Lambda now enables developers to run code in AWS GovCloud (US) without provisioning or managing servers. Lambda executes your code only when needed and scales automatically, from a few requests per day to thousands per second. You pay only for the compute time you consume; there is no charge when your code is not running. With Lambda, you can run code for virtually any type of application or backend service – all with zero administration commitment.”

The post also highlights how organizations are using Lambda, including NASA for its Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as well as The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, both of which have built serverless data processing solutions that help them perform data calculations on huge scales.

While also saving them money in the long run — as Lambda works to execute code when needed and only charges users for the compute time consumed.

The service can also perform administration support tasks, ranging from server and operating system maintenance to capacity provisioning and automatic scaling, even code monitoring, among several others.
