Amazon Lightsail VPS Service Expands To More Regions

AWS is expanding its Amazon Lightsail VPS service to nine more regions, and has also launched a new global console for this affordable and easy to use offering.

Which allows users to rent out virtual private servers for as low as $5 a month.

Amazon Web Services launched Lightsail at its re:Invent conference last year, putting it in competition against popular VPS providers like DigitalOcean, Linode and Vultr — all companies that target developers and users that want to host their websites on these lightweight VPS solutions.

Up until now, Amazon Lightsail was only available in the US East Region, but with this expansion, the VPS service can now be accessed and set up in several other regions where the AWS cloud platform operates.

Here is the full list of supported regions:

• US East (Northern Virginia)
• US West (Oregon)
• US East (Ohio)
• EU (London)
• EU (Frankfurt)
• EU (Ireland)
• Asia Pacific (Mumbai)
• Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
• Asia Pacific (Singapore)
• Asia Pacific (Sydney)

At the same time, AWS also updated the console of the service, which now allows users to create and manage resources in one or more regions, straight from the control panel.

Amazon Lightsail plans start at $5 for servers with 512MB RAM and 20GB SSD storage, very much in line with other industry offerings from the companies listed above. Of course, users can scale these up to their requirements, as and when needed.
