AWS Opens New Office In Stockholm, Goes On A Hiring Spree

True to its word. Amazon Web Services has just opened a shiny new office in central Stockholm, and has embarked on a hiring spree as the cloud giant puts special emphasis on the Nordic market.

The company already confirmed back in April that it plans to build three new datacenters in Eskilstuna, Västerås and Katrineholm. This physical presence will help Amazon Web Services enable faster data transfer speeds for users and customers.

While, equally importantly, cater to the preference of local companies for keeping their data at home.

Darren Mowry, AWS Swedish country manager talked about privacy and this new office, saying:

“This will be our biggest hiring year ever. My biggest source of stress is to hire at a sufficient pace. We’ve noticed it’s very important to many of our customers. As you put your data in Sweden, and it will stay here.”

The company already has 32 open positions in Stockholm, as evident from its career page currently.

According to Mowry, while Sweden may be a small market, relatively speaking, it is one of the countries that has shown the fastest growth in AWS, and many local startups are being born in the cloud. For this reason, the cloud giant will specifically target startup companies for their cloud computing needs.
