Microsoft Cloud Service Map Compares AWS, Azure

Comparing, are we? It is easy to be overwhelmed by the number of cloud services available these days. To help things along, Microsoft has put together a cloud service map for users looking to migrate.

One that compares Azure and AWS.

To be honest, this is more of a table that compares the two hyperscale cloud providers, providing a lot of information at a glance to help organizations looking to migrate to the cloud. They can compare the two cloud services, and quickly orient themselves with the services required for a successful migration.

At least, that is the idea here.

Microsoft explains:

“As the leading public cloud platforms, Azure and AWS each offer businesses a broad and deep set of capabilities with global coverage. Yet many organizations choose to use both platforms together for greater choice and flexibility, as well as to spread their risk and dependencies with a multicloud approach. Consulting companies and software vendors might also build on and use both Azure and AWS, as these platforms represent most of the cloud market demand.”

As the company notes, the cloud service map offers 13 different categories that feature a range of different services that the two leading providers provide — services across compute, storage, database, intelligence, Internet of Things, and more.

While the map itself is not overly detailed, and the information provided is publicly available, it still is an extremely useful resource for IT teams that are using, or plan to use, services across both providers.

AWS still leads the public cloud market by a longshot, the latest Gartner numbers put Microsoft in second place with a 7.1% share in 2016, followed by Alibaba and Google.
