QTS, AWS Sign Blockbuster Colocation Deal

QTS Reality CloudRamp has become the first colocation offering on the AWS Marketplace, and this partnership with Amazon Web Services has the potential to be a game changer.

The two companies recently announced plans to enhance their collaboration, offering this unique service, first of its kind, designed to help businesses that sign up AWS the ability to move their workloads to the Amazon cloud platform with a flexible colocation service.

It will allow customers, most of who need short term colocation services as they set up their apps and workloads on the cloud, to buy and renew their contracts monthly. They will also have the choice of increasing or decreasing their rack storage spaces as needed throughout the migration process.

In other words, this goes beyond a standard Direct Connect partnership that networking and connectivity providers unveil day in day out — AWS usually does not collaborate for these.

This QTS deal is ideal for both customers that may only need on or two months of colocation to support their Amazon Web Services migrations. And also for workloads that come with specialized compliance requirements.

QTS aims to provide both short and long term specialized colocation solutions optimized for AWS.

And while having a hyperscale cloud company actively selling partner colocation cabinets as part of a hybrid IT strategy may seem counterintuitive to some, this unified approach brings benefits for both companies.

QTS benefits from cabinets sold short term during migrations to AWS, while Amazon Web Services gains longer term colocation and private cloud deployments from this partnership.
