Disney Inks Deals With AWS

The Walt Disney Company, home to some of the most iconic and beloved entertainment brands on the planet, has selected AWS as its preferred cloud infrastructure provider.

It will expand use of the Amazon cloud platform to migrate its production workloads.

Already making use of Amazon Web Services for a variety of use cases, the company has been in partnership with AWS for more than 8 years. AWS has already helped Disney host websites and digital properties, and in areas like analytics, mobile, business applications and machine learning.

This blockbuster new deal was announced as part of the re:Invent conference in Las Vegas.

Charles Weiner, Senior Vice President Enterprise Infrastructure Services for The Walt Disney Company:

“Expanding our strategic relationship with AWS and making AWS our preferred public cloud infrastructure provider aligns with our overall technical strategy. We have had success modernizing our IT operations and transforming the digital presence of our brands using AWS. We look forward to our continued collaboration as we accelerate our Digital Platform migration to the public cloud.”

The House of Mouse is the latest big name to go all in with AWS, as the cloud leader already entered into similar partnerships with several other large companies this year.

Including the likes of General Electric and Turner.

Disney already uses AWS to run a number of business-critical workloads on the cloud platform for its various segments, including Media Networks, Parks and Resorts, and The Walt Disney Studios.

That said, this latest development is a particularly noteworthy gain for Amazon Web Services, as the entertainment company has worked extensively with the Google Cloud Platform and spoken quite dotingly of the experience.

From the looks of things, it does not seem like Disney is abandoning all work with Google but it nevertheless has selected AWS as its preferred cloud partner.

And that’s a win, a big win, any way you look at it.
